This paper presents the results of a study that focuses on compositionality, cognitive and distributed creativity, and the intertwinement between composition and culture in collaborative creative processes, based on a database developed in a previous phase of the research. In this new stage, we conducted an in-depth examination of the literature, aiming for a more qualitative analysis of the selected texts in order to better understand this field of research. The study is concerned about three contemporary challenges for approaching creative processes in music: the insufficiency of subjective anecdotes, the limitations imposed by consciousness, and the need to establish resident models for understanding our experience with music.
