Abstract

This paper aims at demonstrating the stylization procedures used by César Guerra-Peixe (1914–1993) in Suite n° 2 (1954) for piano. For this, we consulted the folkloric and popular tradition material collected and published by Guerra-Peixe, the stylization procedures used by the composer established by Randolf Miguel (2006) and complementary papers for the analysis and contextualization of the work, such as Maracatus de Recife (1955), Melos e Harmonia Acústica (1988) and Revista do Folclore (1966). Thus, we will make a comparative musical analysis between the work and its possible primary sources of inspiration, identifying the stylizations used by the composer.
